Who are Parkside?
We are a family-owned, boutique winery located one hour north of Melbourne in the heart of the Macedon Ranges. Our passion is producing hand crafted Sparkling and small batch Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines of distinction that capture the character and terroir of our single vineyard estate.
Established in 1860, Parkside Winery Estate is a destination where visitors can taste Parkside’s medal winning wines in the historical surroundings of the Estate’s original horse stables then relax in the grounds of this historical, landmark estate to enjoy the splendor and elegance of a bygone era.
The vineyard was established in 1999 with chardonnay, pinot noir and sauvignon varietals planted across 3.5 acres on a north facing slope. Rich volcanic soils, high winter rainfall, 500 metre altitude and brisk winds off the Great Southern Ocean all combine to give our vines an extended cool climate growing season that produces wines with high acidity, delicate stone fruit characters and soft tannins in the pinot noir.

The Parkside Estate Story
Robert and Eliza Parks arrived in Melbourne from Somerset, England in 1860. Upon embarking from their ship, they immediately set off to their newly purchased property in Rochford where a two roomed, timber house had been built amongst 160 acres of bush and trees.
Using timber from the farm, the property was fenced, barns and stables were built. To the credit of these early pioneers, two of these original buildings still stand at Parkside – the grain barn and Clydesdale barn which is now our Cellar Door. Parkside became one of the most productive and well know farms in the region over generations growing potatoes, peas, oats, wheat and breeding champion Clydesdale horses.
A New House is Built
In 1890 the prominent local builder Mr C Colliver was engaged to build a new, three room house using locally made red bricks. The house featured marble fireplaces, delicate stained glass, and ornate lattice work on a wraparound veranda. The garden was also “landscaped” to include a bowling green and enhanced plantings of fruit trees and flowering displays. This house is still the main residence at Parkside today.
Driven by passion, diligence and craftsmanship with distinction, forty years after their arrival Robert and Eliza had transformed Parkside into a landmark property known for its elegance, entertainment and welcoming atmosphere.
In 2008 Darryl and Jenny Ward became the proud custodians of this historical, landmark property. The homestead has been restored, thoroughbred yearlings roam freely in the paddocks and the original barns and stables are gradually being returned to their former glory.
It is our vision that Parkside once again becomes a renowned destination of choice. A destination where visitors can taste our handcrafted sparkling and wines, experience the stories that are captured in our vintages, but most of all enjoy the inviting country location and hospitality that is Parkside.
